This is Nigeria, a blessed country in terms of material and
human resources. A land where anything is acceptable whether good or bad. A
great land where the masses suffer for the mistakes of their leaders who get
honoured for looting from the state treasury. The village towncrier has chosen
to take a look at the various infamous statements made by some eminent
Nigerians during the fierce contest for the nation's national cake all in the
name of politics.
Topping my list is General Muhammadu Buhari (RTD).
1. General Muhammadu Buhari
In 2011, he said the People's
Democratic Party (PDP) used corpers to rig the election for Goodluck Jonathan.
This single statement led to the persecution of corpers in the northern states.
Over 15 corpers died at the end of the day. No apology till date.
Furthermore, he made further threats.
In his words:
''I will make Nigeria
ungovernable for Goodluck Jonathan'' Many traced the birth of Boko haram to
this statement. Respect to Buhari, he is now the masses choice in Nigeria
today.
2) President Goodluck Ebele 'Azikiwe' Jonathan
Our outgoing president made a lot of laughable statements
unexpected of his position but I will just pick two in order not to bore you.
In 2014 & 2015, he reiterated that "There is no corruption
but mere stealing in
Nigeria" Nigerian leaders are corrupt, what they do
isn't stealing.
Furthermore, on the 9th of January, 2015, President Jonathan
accused Buhari of his inability to remember his personal phone number.
In his words;
“Is it now that Buhari cannot even remember his own phone
number that he can change the
economy of the country.” Jonathan asked.
(3) Elder Goodsay Orubebe
The fever generated by the eagerness of Nigerians about the
outcome collation of the
presidential election results in Abuja inched to its peak on
Tuesday 31st of March 2015, when the Peoples Democratic Party’s agent, Godsday
Orubebe, caused a row at the venue. This was indeed shameful for a man of his
high repute. In his words:
“Jega we have lost confidence
in you. Jega has nothing
to say here he did not come
here before he did something about Rivers State,
let him go to his office. I will not leave here.”
4) Femi Fani Kayode
Fani-Kayode has made a variety of statements about the APC
and its leader. Consequently the party
leadership even threatened to drag him to court. He made numerous controversial
statements but I will list a few.
They are:
"APC Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari has
prostate cancer, acute asthma
and is suffering from dementia".
" Bola Tinubu is sick and Lai Mohammed wears pampers"
The latter is quite hilarious. Political comedy at its peak.
"Buhari's election campaign is being funded by ISIS".
5) Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos
You all heard the shocking
audio of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, stating that Igbos
in Lagos state would perish in the lagoon if they fail to to
vote for APC governorship candidate, Akinwumi Ambode in the governorship
elections. In his words:
“On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode who I
picked, that is your end. If it doesn’t happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and
it is not my father who gave birth to me.
“Jonathan is my son and I speak to him
every day. By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for
the time being. This is an undivided
chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the
future.
“On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God,
goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person
is going to die inside this water.
“I’m
not ready to beg you.
Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi (Agbaje) is my blood
relation and I told him that he cannot be governor in Lagos
for now. The future belongs to
God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do
in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere,
don’t do it here.
“If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous
for you. If you go against my wish, you will perish in the water.”
6) Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State
Controversial Fayose sponsored a death advertorial on a
newspaper for Buhari. This raised so much tension in the country and till date
he feels so unrepentant about it. In his words:
“…again, I say it that Buhari is too old and spent to
lead Nigeria. The health of all of us who have stepped into the leadership
space is nothing personal to us anymore as it has implications on
the polity.”
Furthermore, Ekiti State
Governor Ayo Fayose also claimed the All Progressives Congress (APC)
presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, traveled to London for
medical check-up, on Monday, February 23, 2015 took some journalists to the Transcorp
Hilton Hotel, Abuja, to show that the Buhari’s interview by Kemi
Fadojutimi on ‘All
Eyes on Africa’ TV
was actually held in Nigeria and not in the UK as claimed by the APC.
7) Mujaheed Asari Dokubo
Former militant and leader of the Niger Delta Peoples
Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, on Sunday 9, 2013 declared that
President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential ambition in 2015 was already
settled, as his Niger Delta compatriots would not succumb to any force opposed
to its full actualization.
There would be blood in the streets if Mr. Jonathan is not re-elected
president in the 2015
election, the militant leader threatened. In his words:
“My support for Jonathan will be biased, because charity
begins at home. Monkey no
fine, but im mama like am. Goodluck, na my person. 2015 is
already a settled matter.
Goodluck Jonathan would be President in 2015.
“Whether they contest or they don’t. If they say the blood of
the dogs and the baboons will
be soaked in the streets, or salt water in the streets, we
will help them in blood in the
streets.”
Well Jonathan lost and
Asari shed blood, yes the blood of a big chicken for his rice and stew meal
loool
8) Dame Patience Jonathan
The first lady has been a comical figure on the political
scene. Patience had, while campaigning
for her husband in Calabar, Cross River State on the 2nd of
March 2015, told the supporters of the PDP to stone anyone canvassing for 'change'
in the state. In her words:
“Anybody that come and tell you change, stone that person. Anybody
that come and tell you he will change, stone that person".
She was charged to the
International Criminal Court (ICC) but nothing has been heard about the case.
9) Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state
Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, accused
the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state who is
also the Governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike, of giving $1m (about 200 million
Naira) monthly to the wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.
In his words, the governor said,
“Do you know that the PDP governorship
candidate, Nyesom Wike, has been giving one million dollars monthly to the wife
of the President, Mrs Patience Jonathan? He has
been doing this to gain political favour in the Presidency
and to retain the favour''.
10) Governor Raji Fashola
Reports say that Governor Fashola pointed an accusing finger
at President Jonathan over the success of the popular Lekki bank robbery. According
to Fashola, the president’s planned
visit to Lagos led to a low number of available policemen on
hand to take on the armed
robbers. In his words:
“Because Jonathan was coming to Lagos, all the vehicles and
police in Lagos were sent to be on standby for him, and there was no available
not enough to stop the
robbery at Ikoyi-Lekki link bridge” .
11) Guru Maraji
A lot of people will frown at his presence on this list. Pls
pardon me and read with love. Dailypost reports that Guru Maharaji , in a bid to
forewarn the All Progressives Congress, advised the party and its presidential candidate,
General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), to forget Nigeria’s presidency.
"There is no vacancy for Buhari at Aso Rock,” he declared in a statement. Guru
Maharaji continued by
saying, “President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is the verifiable divine
choice of the forthcoming presidential election. As the
Living Perfect Master of creation in
whose hands the fate of Nigerian project lies spiritually, I
declare divinity’s
decision to return
Jonathan to Aso Rock over Muhammadu Buhari.
“I had publicly and sufficiently advised Buhari against
nursing the ambition to rule Nigeria
again. Superior forces are actually in-charge of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria. I am at the
helm of these great and unseen primordial powers of creation.
12) Prophet T.B Joshua
In another attempt to clear his name and image of his church
from allegations,
Pastor T.B. Joshua published the new video explaining that
his church’s guesthouse collapse was a “controlled demolition”. The tragedy dating back to
September 12 occurred when the building belonging to the Synagogue Church of
All Nations (SCOAN) suddenly fell down leaving more than one hundred people
dead and many injured.
“After he had left the prayer mountain, the same aircraft was
sighted hovering around the church premises by 11.30am, about 40 feet from the
building. After hovering the first time,
it came back five minutes later and 9 minutes later. It
continued like this four times. The
CCTV got it very clear, because it is all over the church
premises. It was after the fourth time
that the building collapsed and the aircraft never came back.”
13) Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo
Senior Pastor of
Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC). He said;
“For Nigeria, the Lord showed me, who will win the election. I
will not mention his name,
because I have to be politically neutral. But when the
president’s
name is announced, 20
percent of a certain part of the nation will not agree.
Eventually, after negotiation they will.
We will agree that we’re one.”
14) Pastor David Oyedepo
Although he openly supported President Jonathan and also
prayed for him in his church with his entire congregation. The statement below
is yet to be vividly attributed to him. There is no video or audio evidence.
"We will open the gate of hell on those who oppose
President Jonathan"
15) Olusegun Obasanjo
Obasanjo, who was reacting to the controversies generated
over the school certificate of General Buhari said:
“I see Buhari as the next President and Jonathan is aware of that
“
(Its so amazing how some few people can just decide the fate of a country of
over 170 million people in the confines of their houses. The above statement
has a huge gravity if adequately weighed).
“Even Jonathan did not finish his PhD course but when it was
presented we stated that, it does not matter but many people do not know
because it was PDP thing.”
